𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝟒𝟎 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟏 Hiring can be a massive time drain on your team if the approach isn’t right. Recently, I helped a Salesforce Partner go from 𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 & 𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝟐 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟒𝟎+ 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. Here’s how we turned a struggle with hundreds of mismatched applicants into a streamlined process that led to 2 hires in just 8 total hours of interviews: If you want to grow your Salesforce team that means you and your team are going to have to look for and interview candidates, so why not make sure your time is as well spent as possible? Less time spent interviewing = more time delivering great outcomes for your customers. 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟏: 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 I hear this a lot, “we need a Unicorn”. That’s not exactly the case. You need an accurate picture of the skills, experience, and personality traits your business needs. Examples of how you can define this: • What are the key things that we need this person to do? • How will this person spend their time? • What are the top 5 essential things a candidate should have in their background? 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟐: 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 We didn’t just throw up a job post and hope for the best (or post and pray as we sometimes say). We crafted a compelling message that would resonate with our ideal candidate. We did post the job, but it didn’t yield any useful results (more on that in a future post). When it comes to marketing a role you have to consider: • What about this role is more attractive to your candidates vs. other opportunities that match their skills? • Only include the required skills you need - don’t ask for apex if you don’t need a developer. • Craft an impactful message for direct outreach to candidates via LinkedIn (this alone yields better results than a job posting). • What does your company have that they can’t find elsewhere? • Opportunities for growth and the people they will work with. • Do you really need that college degree? 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟑: 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 This is where we left the “post and pray” method behind. I guided them on how to pinpoint candidates who matched the refined role criteria. We used targeted search methods to find people who were already a great fit rather than waiting for them to apply. Considerations: • Does a candidate’s role at their current employer match what you’d ask them to do? E.g. Big4 Salesforce Consulting probably doesn’t look the same as consulting at a 20-person business. • If your role is hard to fill, are there any transferable skills that would work? • Using boolean searches to identify or omit the keywords that matter. 🍍 We've been seeing a lot more people leaving jobs before they have secured new employment recently. This, as always, is not advisable unless there are special circumstances. Most employers still prefer to see candidates that are presently employed. Please keep that in mind along with the tips here for when we help you get the offer you're looking for!
